2012 Summer Season

We’re busy working away in the kitchen, testing new recipes for the new Summer Festival Season, starting May Bank Holiday at Nuts in May Music Festival in Cumbria!!  A full list of all our Summer events will be posted soon.

In the meantime, have a look here  to see what we’re all about, and at the Markets and Festivals pages to hear about what we’re up to.

Although we don’t have many weekends free for private parties this Summer, we will be offering a 25% discount on paella parties booked Monday to Thursday, with prices starting from £6.00 per head.  See Event Catering for more details.

Shortlisted as Best British Street Food

Last month was our first anniversary of trading – quietly celebrated amidst a sea of packing cases as we moved to a bigger house to accomodate all our kit.

From a market stall in West Didsbury with a couple of paella pans (we sold out by 1pm, so thought we’d better buy more ingredients and equipment next time) to inclusion in Shortlist Magazine’s Britain’s Best Street Food…it’s been an amazing first year. There’s been plenty of highs and the occasional low along the way, but we wouldn’t be anywhere else and can’t wait for the Summer season to start.

Thanks for all your help and support!

New Autumn Menu

At the beginning of October, we took part in Manchester’s first street food fair as part of the city’s annual food and drink festival, where we introduced traditional Spanish stews and a Chorizo Sandwich with rocket, roasted peppers and aioli, to our menu.

The rich Catalan beef stew with chocolate and cinnamon has a dark bitter sweetness that complements the meat prefectly; while the spicy vegetable stew is packed full of fresh autumn produce; pears, butternut squash, potatoes and carrots. Both were served with fresh organic loaves from Bread Connections, artisan bakers and sourdough specialists based in Disley, Cheshire.  Expect to see more dishes added to the menu throughout autumn and winter.

Our Summer Highlights

We admit to have been totally rubbish at updating our site over the summer months, but in our defence we were just a little busy with markets, private parties, food and music FESTIVALS!!!

Yes, Las Paelleras popped its festival cherry back in August at the Forest of Galtres Festival near York.  We’ve been punters at muddy music festivals for years, but cooking in 6 inches of the stuff for 4 days was a whole different paella pan of fish!  Despite the terrible weather we had a brilliant time, made even better by some fantastic (and very hardworking) friends. Thank you guys xxx

August also saw us at the wonderful Clitheroe Food Festival, which incidentally won third place in the Best Tourism Event of the Year in the Lancashire & Blackpool Tourism Awards 2011/12.  Check out the very cheesy grin!

Late Summer, we were delighted to be part of the very first Ramsbotttom Festival,  a boutique music event held over 3 days between 16-18 September at the town’s cricket club.  The Manchester weather didn’t disappoint….the heavens opened on Friday afternoon resulting in a water logged pitch, but the excellent bands,  including Guillemots; Kid British; Cherry Ghost; and our hot tip for 2012; Janice Graham Band, together with all top class food and drink certainly made up for it.  We made some lovely new friends too, who we’ve already bumped into again on the festival food circuit.

We also managed to sneak a 3 day camping break in North Norfolk at the beautiful West Lexham, a centre that combines education and relaxation, where we stayed in a fab bell tent.

The Manchester Picnic

Piccadilly gardens goes all gourmet this weekend (Fri 5th – Sun 7th) with the Manchester Picnic. We’re in the very best company of award winners, Harvey Nics, Abode, Aumbry, Gingers Comfort Emporium & The Mark Addy….get us!

Whirlwind Or What?

Is it really six weeks since our last post? Blimey! Time certainly flies when you’re serving paella to all you lovely people!

June and July have seen us exploring new markets (Rode Hall, Horse and Jockey at Chorlton Green, and also Glossop in Derbyshire, where our spirits, and the paella, were a little dampened); taking our paella stand out on the road to Food & Drink Fairs and Arts & Music Festivals; catering at private parties; and planning new events for the coming months.

Highlights have included a baking hot Congleton Food & Drink Festival and an extremely wet and windy Barnaby Festival in Macclesfield, where the queues at each stretched as far as we could see…who says paella’s just for sunny days?

We’ve invested in a posh new gazebo, new burners and even BIGGER pans so we can feed even more of you, even faster.

Phew!!

We then treated ourselves to five days in Ibiza where we soaked up the sun, ate delicious food (including what’s rumoured to be the island’s best paella at a beach bar in Cala Gracioneta) and sampled a few cocktails…purely for research purposes, of course!

Refreshed and re-energised, we’re now ready for what will be our busiest six weeks to date. Come and see us at the following markets and events in July and August:

May Bank Holiday Markets

On Saturday we returned to West Didsbury Market, where our street food adventure first started.  Despite the blustery conditions (we did worry the gazebo might take off at any moment)  the good people of South Manchester  were out and about and enjoying all the delicious produce on sale.  Check out the photos from Didsbury Life’s Blog

The following day we headed out of Manchester to the wonderful Treacle Market in Macclesfield, Cheshire.  The market, which celebrates it’s 1st Birthday at the end of July is a must for local foodie lovers and fans of vintage.  With activites for the kids, live music, fantastic food and a real ale stall… it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tucking into Paella at Macclesfield’s Treacle Market

Treacle occurs on the last Sunday of the month. The next market will be on 26th June.  West Didsbury’s next local street market is on 25th June.

Manchester’s Local Street Markets

The local street markets, held each week in a different Manchester neighbourbood boast an eclectic array of foods, arts and crafts, clothing and gifts.

There’s a real emphasis on the homemade - using organic or free range, sustainable and locally sourced produce. Many of the traders are Manchester-based, independent businesses, so there’s a genuine sense of community too!

On Saturday (21st May) Las Paelleras was back in Chorlton debuting our new sustainable fish paella and making some new friends too.

Trove - Homemade, Organic, Locally Sourced Preserves, Jams and Chutneys

Peach Pie – Traditional homemade cakes and preserves

The English Rose Bakery – Specialising in the French Macaron
